Catholic Relief Services Collection

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Our parish will take up the Catholic Relief Services Collection on Sunday, March 14, 2010. This Collection helps to fund six Catholic organizations that improve the quality of life and protect human dignity. Your gift will support agricultural development to strengthen economies and create food sustainability, provided outreach services to survivors of human trafficking, and supply pastoral care and advocacy for immigrants and refugees. By helping the marginalized and impoverished, you give hope to Jesus in disguise. Please be charitable in the Catholic Relief Services Collection

Spring Ministry Trainings!

If you missed the opportunity for Ministry sign-ups or trainings in the fall, Laurie is willing to schedule ‘Spring Training’ if there is enough interest in doing so. With a parish of this size, which continues to grow, there is always a need for Greeters, Ushers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Acolytes, and Cantors. Please call the office or email Laurie if you would be interested. 587-4581 ext. 105 OR lcroghan@bridgeband.com

Diocesan Special Collection for Haiti

In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti and aftercare for those whose lives were impacted, the Diocese of Helena sent $235,242 from the generous contributions of parishioners throughout the diocese. Catholic Relief Services, whose people were on the ground at the time of the quake and first responders in the crisis, continue to be an active part of the recovery effort. The dollars collected through out parishes went to CRS specifically for the Haiti relief effort. Our gratitude to all those whose compassionate hearts responded to this great need.

FAMILY PROMISE

SHELTER AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR HOMELESS FAMILIES

The loss of a home is a crisis for anyone, but especially for families. Parents endure the heartache of finding food and a secure environment for their children with little time to search for work and housing each day. One out of every 4 homeless persons is a child.

Family Promise of Gallatin Valley is a network of local church congregations organized to help Gallatin Valley's homeless families with children. Churches have come together to provide shelter and meals, while each family is assisted by the Network Director, a professional social worker, in finding appropriate services, jobs, and housing. This is a national program with a success rate of over 80%!

Does Bozeman Really Have Homeless Families?

Bozeman's HRDC office is presently handling emergency housing requests for 3-4 families per week. The Salvation Army reports approximately 60 people per month who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness. They are currently giving them tents and blankets. Family Promise usually has a waiting list of families for the program.

Holy Rosary's Parish and Finance Councils have committed to be part of this exciting and tangible way of doing God's work of helping families who are down on their luck! We are partners with First Lutheran Church, where the families will be hosted. Together, our two congregations host 3-5 families at First Lutheran for one week at a time, approximately every 9-10 weeks. There is much to be done to get ready for our guests and lots of ways for YOU to be involved! Volunteers from both the Host (First Lutheran) and Partner (Holy Rosary) congregations provide a variety of services: cooking meals, eating and spending the evening with the families, and staying overnight. The families arrive each evening at 5:30 PM and stay until 7:30 AM the next morning. The children will go off to school while the parents and younger children spend the day at the "Family Day Center" where staffed professionals assist them in looking for work and housing.

Please consider getting involved - or getting more involved by attending one of the 2-hour, evening training sessions offered once per month. Details of the March, 2010 training will be coming soon. Our parish coordinator for Family Promise, is Connie Kantner. Please contact her if you have any questions about volunteering or just attend the next training if you are ready to serve. Our next turn to host the families is in April. Connie can be reached at 587-7550.

MACC

March 11, 2010

The guest speaker for the March session of the Montana Association of Catholics in Commerce (MACC) will be State Representative Michael More, District 70 (Gallatin Gateway). A freshman legislator, Representative More served his first term in the 61st session of the Montana House of Representatives. Mike will discuss several Catholic principles that are critical to exercising the prudential judgment demanded of lawmakers. His talk will draw from a number of specific issues from the 2009 legislative session, and will allow the audience greater insight into the nexus of our Christian faith and proper governance. He may be contacted via his website: www.moreformontana.com. The doors open at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Holiday Inn, Bozeman, with lunch served promptly at noon. The event is open to the public. The cost is $15.00 for non-members (lunch included) and $12.00 for members; online reservations are available from Feb 27 – March 8 at: http://www.macc.bz/faq.php?s=6#37, or call: 406-570-4910.
